Hello, I'm Mark, your interview coach. Welcome to Effective Interview Preparation.
An interview is not an interrogation. It is a conversation between two professionals, and you can prepare for it. In this first module, I will show you how the course works and how to get the most out of it.Uma entrevista não é um interrogatório.
Interviewers ask many different questions, but behind all of them there are only three. First: can you do the job? They want to see your skills and your experience. Second: will you do the job? They want to see your motivation, and whether you will stay and grow with the company. Third: will you fit the team? They want to know how it feels to work with you.
When you hear a question, ask yourself: which of these three is it? That is how you find the best answer.
Here is my golden rule: do not memorize your answers. A memorized answer sounds robotic, and if you forget one word, you freeze. Instead, prepare your ideas, your stories and a few key phrases. Then listen carefully, and think about what the interviewer really wants to know.

Every module has the same path. Watch the video. Read the chapter text, and hover over the underlined words to see the translation and hear the pronunciation. Listen to the three audios, then answer the questions.
Audio 1: Hi, I'm Laura, and I'm the hiring manager for this position.Oi, eu sou a Laura, gestora desta vaga.
Audio 2: Did you find the office easily?Você encontrou o escritório com facilidade?
Audio 3: What interests you about this position?O que interessa você nesta vaga?
What kind of job are you looking for, and which interview question worries you the most?
“How are you today?” · “Did you find us easily?”(“Como você está hoje?”
Como pensar: Resposta curta e calorosa, e devolva a pergunta: “I'm doing well, thank you. And you?” (“Estou bem, obrigado. E você?”). Não conte a história do trânsito.
“Tell me about yourself.”(“Fale sobre você.”)
“Why are you interested in this position?”(“Por que você se interessa por esta vaga?”)
“Do you have any questions for us?”(“Você tem alguma pergunta para nós?”)
Don't memorize. Prepare ideas. A memorized answer sounds robotic, and one forgotten word can make you freeze. Know your main idea, two stories, and a few key phrases. Let the rest come naturally.
Every question is one of three. Can you do the job? Will you do the job? Will you fit the team? When you hear a question, decide which one it is. That short pause already improves your answer.
Speak more slowly than you think you need to. Slow speech sounds clear and confident, especially in a second language. Rushing shows nerves.
Asking for repetition is professional. "Could you repeat the question, please?" shows care, not weakness. It is better than answering a different question.
An interview is a conversation between two professionals. You are also evaluating the company. Walk in with that attitude.
Research before you go. Read the job description and mark the five main requirements. Learn what the company does and what it has published recently. This will feed Modules 2 and 7.
Practice out loud, a little every day. Reading is not enough. If you can, practice with another person and ask them to interrupt you with questions.
Steps and dress code change from company to company. Ask the recruiter how the process works and what people usually wear there. Nobody is offended by that question.
Your Interview Readiness Checklist, for the whole course. Check each item when it is done; your marks are saved on this device.
